Tennis: Mektić and Ram clinch first Masters title together

Nikola Mektić and his American partner Rajeev Ram claimed their first Masters title as a team on Monday in Cincinnati. 

The Croatian-American duo defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego in the doubles final to secure their maiden Masters 1000 trophy together.

Competing in their first tour-level final as a pair in just their third event of the year, Mektić and Ram staged a comeback to defeat the Italians 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in a 90-minute match.

"Tennis offers crazy stories. This is our third tournament together, although we have known each other for probably three decades. Thank you very much, I can't thank you enough, it was a pleasure to play this week," Mektić said during the trophy ceremony.

"We have known each other for a very long time. We have played some great matches against each other. It is so nice to have him on my side of the court," Ram added.
