Croatia's Marin Čilić had a successful start at the ATP 250 Series Tournament underway in Stockholm, defeating 19-year-old Norwegian Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 7-5, 6-3.
The 37 year-old achieved victory after an hour and 34 minutes of play. In the first set, he broke in the 12th game, while in the second, Čilić took away his opponent's serve in the sixth game and calmly brought the match to an end.
Čilić served 12 aces, hit 60% of his first serves and took advantage of two of seven break points, while his opponent did not win a single break point.
In the second round, Čilić will face a much tougher test, a duel against Norway's top player Casper Ruud, currently 12th in the ATP rankings.
This will be their fourth meeting, and the Norwegian currently leads 3-0 in wins.
