The LNG Croatia Company has selected the Turkish shipbuilding company Kuzey Star Shipyard's bid of 14.6 million euros as the contractor for the expansion of the liquefied natural gas terminal on Krk, while the two million euro outfitting job has been entrusted to the Zagreb Company S.C.A.N.
The planned modifications include the installation of a new gasification module, which will further increase the capacity of the floating terminal in Omišalj, namely the LNG Croatia ship, by 250 thousand cubic meters of gasification per hour.
The gasification module weighs 470 tons and is manufactured by the Norwegian company WGS in China. After completion of production, it will be transported to the contractor's location where prefabrication, preparatory work and integration will be carried out. The production of the module is expected to be completed in February this year, after which its installation will begin.
The works include the transport of the module, dismantling of existing elements on the ship, strengthening the structure and installing and connecting the new system to the existing gasification module. The new module will be integrated with all necessary systems on the ship such as ventilation, fire protection, gas stripping, as well as the seawater system used for cooling.
It will operate under an operating pressure of 70 to 95 bar, with a minimum seawater temperature of 10°C. The entire process must be carried out according to the high standards of the DNV classification society, and the contractors are required to ensure full functionality and compliance of the system before commissioning.
The LNG Croatia ship, which was built in 2005 in South Korea, already has an existing gasification module with a capacity of 450 thousand cubic meters per hour. The module consists of three gasification units and is connected to several systems necessary for safe and efficient gas management.
The current floating terminal is not sufficient for the increased needs. Although the terminal on Krk already represents an important energy hub, its modernization and capacity increase will further ensure greater efficiency and meet growing energy needs, as well as ensure a stable gas supply for Croatia, as well as the wider European market.
The Turkish shipyard and the Zagreb-based company won the job in an international public tender, the results of which were announced on Monday, January 13.
