“The Australian-Croatian Club is expecting 10,000 visitors at the European Festival it will organize in Canberra next month together with the Poles and French there,” said its president.
“We are gathering again with the Polish club White Eagle and the Alliance Française to organize an even bigger European festival on September 6,” announced President Domagoj Polegubić via social media.
The European Festival is a celebration of European heritage, with the Australian Croatian Club promoting Croatian music, dance and food in Australia.
“The last time we held it together, there were over 5,500 visitors. This year it will be bigger and we will have a marketing promotion with the aim of attracting more than 10,000 visitors,” said Polegubić.
So far, they have registered 50 stands where they will display cultural and gastronomic exhibits, including Croatian wines.
The Australian-Croatian Club was founded in Canberra by Croatian emigrants in 1958. Initially, they started a Croatian football club there, and the association soon became an important cultural and political center for Croatians in that city. Since 1972, it has had a Croatian school where they teach Croatian language, culture and history.
Through the O'Connor Knights football club, whose symbol is a knight with a Croatian shield, they preserve the identity of their community.
