The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has reported that the Croatian citizen who is participating in the Global Sumud flotilla to Gaza, has not contacted the Croatian Embassy in Israel, but the Ministry has already issued a requested for her protection.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs issued a statement on Thursday noting that the Croatian Embassy in Tel Aviv requested protection for Croatian citizen Morana Miljanović on September 26th. This in spite of the fact that Miljanović had not contacted the Croatian embassy in Tel Aviv, nor the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, who instead learned of her participation in the Gaza flotilla from the media.

“According to information from the competent body of the State of Israel, the ship Shireen, on which the Croatian citizen should be, has not yet been brought to the seaport,” the ministry noted in the statement. The ministry further explained that according to the provisions of the Vienna Convention, the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Tel Aviv will use everything at its disposal when it comes to the protection of Croatian citizens on this occasion.

The ministry also announced on X that Croatia joins Greece, Italy and others in calling for the safe delivery of humanitarian aid via the Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem. However, the Israeli navy has intercepted several civilian ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza and detained activists on board. The Gaza flotilla consists of more than 40 civilian ships carrying around 500 activists. The ships were about 70 nautical miles from Gaza when they were intercepted.

Before the flotilla set sail from Barcelona, Israel said it would allow the aid to be disembarked in the southern port of Ashdod, from where it would be delivered to the enclave by land. The Global Sumud flotilla however, has refused these conditions, and instead is insisting on delivering the aid to the citizens of Gaza.
