EU Migration Pact coming into force

The EU Pact on Migration and Asylum will apply across all European Union Member States starting tomorrow.

Adopted in May last year, the Pact establishes a comprehensive migration and asylum framework, with a focus on stronger protection of the EU’s external borders and a balance between solidarity and responsibility among Member States.

Interior Minister Davor Božinović said Croatia is ready for implementation, adding that the Ministry of the Interior, the police, and other relevant institutions have completed all necessary preparations.

“We expect implementation to begin soon, and Croatia is ready. The Ministry of the Interior, the police, and all other relevant institutions have completed the necessary preparations. We believe the Pact will provide an important framework for returning individuals who do not qualify for international protection and for reducing secondary migration within the European Union. This marks the beginning of a broader process aimed at ensuring compliance with European rules,” Božinović said.
