Grlić Radman visits Croatian community in Montreal

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman is visiting Canada, where he has met with members of the Croatian community in Montreal and emphasized their longstanding role in strengthening ties between Croatia and Canada.

Addressing the Croatian community in Montreal, Grlić Radman said that Croatians in Canada have for decades been one of the most important links between the two countries.

His visit to Canada began with a meeting with Isabella Komšić, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Croatia, with whom he discussed the Croatian community and ways to further strengthen Croatia’s presence and ties with Montreal and Quebec.

Grlić Radman also attended Holy Mass at the St. Nikola Tavelić Croatian Catholic Mission, where he met with numerous members of the Croatian community.

In the presence of representatives of the Canadian government, the City of Montreal and the consular corps, he presented Komšić with her letter of appointment and an official plaque, formally marking the beginning of her mandate as honorary consul.

Government to Continue Supporting Croatian Diaspora

Grlić Radman said that Croatians in Quebec and across Canada make a significant contribution to Croatia’s international reputation and to Croatian-Canadian relations through their work, achievements and commitment to their homeland.

"The Government of the Republic of Croatia will continue to provide ongoing support to the Croatian diaspora and foster its connection with the homeland," Grlić Radman said.

Addressing young people and descendants of Croatian emigrants in particular, he emphasized the importance of maintaining their connection to their heritage.

"Croatian heritage is not merely a legacy, but also an opportunity," he said.

"Seize that opportunity, nurture your identity, and stay connected to Croatia," Grlić Radman concluded.

Grlić Radman is visiting Canada from September 26 to 28. In Toronto, he will participate in the Second International Conference on the Return of Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians and Prisoners of War, where he is also scheduled to address conference participants.
