Around 20 artists from Sombor, Subotica, Kolut, Sonta and Croatia gathered for the 26th “Colorit” art colony, organized by the Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society “Vladimir Nazor” in Sombor. The new works will become part of a growing collection created over more than a quarter-century of the colony’s history.
This year’s participants also included members of the “CroArt” Visual Artists Association from Subotica, the Cancer Support Society and Sombor’s Art Group 76.
Art That Brings People Together
Dr. Đerđi Šarić, president of the Cancer Support Society, said the organization carries out a wide range of activities, from theater productions and book projects to trips, panel discussions and lectures. Its visual arts section has also become an important part of its work.
Cecilija Miler has been part of “Colorit” since its beginnings. The founder of the “Nazor” art colony is also an active member of the Cancer Support Society, where she has led painting workshops. She took part in this year’s colony as well.
Bunjevac Traditional Dress on Canvas
Among the participating artists was Josipa Dekan from Sonta, who has been painting as an amateur for the past three years. She most often paints scenes and motifs from Sonta and Šokadija, but this time she chose to depict a young woman wearing traditional Bunjevac dress.
The artists worked at the Cultural Center in Gradina, and their paintings will become part of the art collection of the “Vladimir Nazor” Croatian Cultural and Artistic Society. The collection already includes works created during the previous 25 editions of “Colorit.”
More than a quarter-century after it was first launched, “Colorit” continues to bring artists together, create new works and preserve tradition and cultural heritage through art.
