The “Jelena’s Legacy Today” project launched a week of events in Solin on Saturday, October 3, 2026, marking the 1,050th anniversary of the death of Queen Jelena and the 950th anniversary of the coronation of King Zvonimir, according to the Press Office of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska.

The project brought together primary and secondary school students who, from February through the end of September, explored the life, significance and legacy of Queen Jelena through literary, visual and multimedia projects. The initiative aimed to introduce young people to Queen Jelena’s heritage and encourage them to consider what the values she embodied - faith, compassion, wisdom, humility, care for others, love for her people and responsibility to the community - mean today.

Representing the City of Split, Silvana Burilović Crnov, head of the city’s Department of Culture, Heritage and Tourism and a representative of Mayor Tomislav Šuta, welcomed those gathered. She highlighted the value of the project, stressing that heritage is not only what is inherited from previous generations, but also what we pass on through our own actions to those who come after us. She congratulated the students on their efforts and creativity and thanked the mentors, schools, organisers and partners who made the project possible.
