The Croatian national team opened the freediving season by competing in the biggest competition of the season and achieved remarkable results.
The Depth Quest competition in Mabini, Philippines, organized by the Lawom Center and World Apnea – AIDA International, under the auspices of Sanghaya Resort, ended yesterday. Around 25 countries were represented at the competition, and the star of the competition was the Croatian representative Petar Klovar, who continues his dominance in the world of deep diving with two new world records.
Petar achieved records in the FIM disciplines – tug-of-war, a discipline in which he has dominated for years, and moved the bar to a depth of 137 meters in approximately 4 minutes, which represents the absolute deepest dive in the history of the competition in all disciplines.
Klovar: I will attempt a fourth record
After that, he also dived in the CWTB discipline, i.e. with fins, where he became the absolute record holder in that discipline with a depth of 128 meters. Klovar now holds three of the four possible absolute world records in freediving, and he has no plans to stop.
“I am glad that everything turned out well and according to plan. The entire winter was spent in serious preparations, and these two months in the Philippines have once again shown that we have a formula for success. There was speculation that we could dive even deeper, and we could, but for now this is just enough to be safe. It is not bad to leave something in reserve, the season has just begun. If plans are made by the end of the season, I will attempt a fourth absolute record,” said Klovar.
Petar Klovar has already been the "deepest man in the world" three times, diving to 132, 135 and now 137 meters in the FIM discipline, and he also holds the deepest dive without any equipment or aids - 103 meters without fins, set last year in Egypt.
If he succeeds in his intention to unite all four disciplines in freediving and bring all the records to Rijeka, it will be the first time in history that a diver has managed to do so.
Maričić takes first place, Delija's national record
A good part of our national team also participated in this competition. In addition to Petar, Sanda Delija and Vitomir Maričić also participated from the Rijeka Ocean club, while Toma Čelar competed from Split.
Sanda Delija did not manage to improve her world record from last year this year, but she did set a new national record by diving to 100 meters in the CWTB discipline - with fins.
Vitomir Maričić won the overall first place in the competition, mostly thanks to strong performances in the FIM and CWTB disciplines, both at a depth of 115 meters.
The special award for the greatest improvement in the competition was won by Toma Čelar from Split, who "deepened" his personal best to 80 meters in the FIM discipline, thus ranking him among the best of our divers and confirming why he has been a member of the best national team in the world for many years.
Among the numerous foreign competitors who train as part of the Ocean club, Zsofia Torocsik stood out, setting a new world record in the FIM discipline by diving to 105 meters.
