Minister Anušić discusses modernization of Armed Forces in USA

Croatia is discussing the possible acquisition of missiles capable of striking targets at distances of 150 kilometers and beyond, Defense Minister Ivan Anušić said on Saturday during an official visit to the United States.

Speaking to Croatian journalists in Minnesota, Anušić said Croatia is expecting U.S. export approvals for missile systems with ranges exceeding 150 kilometers.

“We are now talking about ranges of 150 kilometers and more, and we are expecting export approvals for missile systems that can strike targets at distances of more than 150 kilometers,” Anušić said.

He noted that Croatia already has systems capable of striking targets more than 300 kilometers away, adding that the new capabilities would further strengthen the country’s defense posture.

“By 2030, our operational capabilities will be at a completely new level. We will be fully equipped and ready for all the challenges that an armed force can face,” Anušić said.

Anušić made the comments during a visit to Camp Ripley in Minnesota, where he attended an event marking 30 years of cooperation between the Croatian Armed Forces and the Minnesota National Guard.

The partnership includes cooperation on the acquisition and operation of Black Hawk helicopters and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. Croatian personnel also train in Minnesota on equipment used by the National Guard.

Anušić also highlighted the planned acquisition of the HIMARS rocket system as part of Croatia’s broader military modernization program.

During his U.S. visit, he is scheduled to travel to Alabama to visit the Yulista Aviation Center of Excellence, where Croatia’s eight Black Hawk helicopters are undergoing final outfitting.

The minister said Croatia is continuing to strengthen cooperation with its allies while investing in the modernization of its armed forces and defense industry.
