Croatian tennis legend Nikola Pilić has died in Rijeka at the age of 87. He coached the Croatian national team to its first Davis Cup victory in 2005.
As a player, Pilić reached the 1973 Roland Garros singles final and the 1962 Wimbledon doubles final with Boro Jovanović. But his coaching career was even more distinguished. He guided stars such as Boris Becker, Goran Ivanišević, and Novak Đoković, and remains the only coach to win Davis Cup titles with three nations—Germany, Croatia, and Serbia.
