The Croatian Generals Association was founded on November 7th, 2005 as a veterans', voluntary, non-governmental and non-partisan association whose basic goals are the promotion of Croatian military thought and tradition, scientific and professional research into the Homeland War, the protection of the reputation and dignity of Croatian Homeland War veterans, the promotion of national unity, Croatian national traditions and the fundamental values on which the Croatian state was created.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Tihomir Kundid, attended a commemoration marking the 20th anniversary of the Croatian Generals Association in Zagreb on Friday.
In his address the association’s president, General Marinko Krešić (Ret.) made it clear that the association was apolitical: "To all the soul-keepers, as well as to those who would like to lecture, instruct, instrumentalize and harness us for their party interests, I say to you; we have only one party, Croatia. And our principles are to work on the national reconciliation of the Croatian people, the unity of the homeland and the Croatian diaspora, and Croatia as a pledge for the future and prosperity. As you can see here, our motto is; Always and everything for Croatia, but our only and eternal Croatia - not for anything."
For his part Prime Minister Plenković thanked the generals for their service during the Homeland War and in the post war period: "We treasure your experience, your advice, everything you did during the Homeland War, and after the war in strengthening the Croatian Armed Forces, but also all of the activities you are engaged in within the Croatian Generals Association and other associations, as many of you are either actively engaged in state institutions or various other sectors such as the economy."
