Only one person has submitted their candidacy in the second public tender for the position of President of the Supreme Court.
The first tender was annulled after the previous candidate did not receive sufficient support from lawmakers in parliament.
The new candidate, 58-year-old Aleksandra Maganić, is a professor at the Zagreb Faculty of Law and was one of the candidates for the new panel of judges on the Constitutional Court last fall.
The State Judicial Council has forwarded her candidacy to President Zoran Milanović for consideration.
Darko Milković, president of the State Judicial Council, said President Milanović had eight days in which to request an assessment from the general session of the Supreme Court and the relevant parliamentary committee.
"After he receives their assessment, the president has a 15-day deadline in which he must decide whether or not to propose the candidate to Croatian Parliament for confirmation. If he does not propose the candidate within that deadline, the State Judicial Council must issue a new tender within 8 days," explained Milković.
