Zagreb police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fire that destroyed the Vjesnik building.
While the cause of the blaze has not been confirmed, attention has turned to a group of young people seen entering the building on Monday evening.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović said the investigation is focused on several young individuals. “One suspect has been arrested and taken into custody. Most of those involved are minors, while the others are classified as young adults,” he stated.
Meanwhile, structural engineers are conducting a detailed analysis of the building using specialized drones.
Professor Mario Uroš from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Croatian Center for Earthquake Engineering explained: “We have a team using drones equipped with detailed cameras that can measure cracks. We are mapping them for monitoring purposes and will also check the vertical alignment of the building. Next, we will install measuring devices at key points on and around the structure. Our goal is to determine the building’s exact condition as quickly as possible so we can assess any further safety measures.”
Due to ongoing safety concerns, investigators have not yet been able to enter the building.
