The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs released a statement today commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, signed on November 21, 1995, which ended the Bosnian War and laid the foundation for peace and political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The ministry called the agreement “a lasting reminder of the value of peace and the need to further strengthen the stability and functionality of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

“As a signatory to the Dayton Agreement and a sincere friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia stands ready to offer its support and experience in assisting the country on its path toward Euro-Atlantic integration,” the statement said. “We continue to support dialogue among legitimate political representatives and the resolution of outstanding issues through constructive cooperation and full respect for international law.”

The ministry highlighted that electoral reform and institutional arrangements ensuring the full equality and political representation of Croats, as a constituent people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, remain essential for long-term stability and trust.

The Dayton Peace Agreement, brokered in the U.S. city of Dayton, Ohio, ended nearly four years of conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which left tens of thousands dead and displaced millions. It created a complex political system aimed at balancing power among the country’s three main ethnic groups: Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs.
