NATO Parliamentary Summit focused on collective security, stronger defense spending, respect for international law and democratic values, as well as closer cooperation amid growing threats on the global stage.

On Monday the Parliament Speakers of NATO member states convened in Istanbul Turkey for the alliance’s Parliamentary Summit, where they called for strengthened defense, alliance unity and support for Ukraine.

Representing Croatia at the summit was the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, who emphasized that Russia's incursion into Ukraine requires NATO to adapt and to solidify unity among its member states. Jandroković also emphasized the importance of strengthening defense capabilities and added that Croatia continues to increase defense spending, which should reach five percent of GDP by 2035.

“At the parliamentary summit here in Istanbul, I placed special emphasis on the importance of the European component of the NATO alliance and the strengthening of the European component, but at the same time a quality partnership with the United States. In that context I highlighted Croatia's defense budget, because all of my colleagues agree with the thesis that investing into defense today is a guarantee of security, stability and long-term peace for our citizens,” Jandroković told reporters after the meeting.
