Croatian sailors in the Strait of Hormuz are alive and accounted for

The US and Iran exchanged a series of attacks on military targets and tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Among the vessels to be hit by an as yet unidentified missile, was a Qatari tanker carrying a large contingent of Croatian sailors.

The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry reports that the Croatian sailors caught in the attacks in the Strait of Hormuz are healthy and accounted for. The Secretary General of the Croatian Seafarers' Union, Neven Melvan, has also confirmed that the Croatian sailors are alive and doing well: "We're not in direct communication with them. Right now they have their own problem to resolve, so they're not in communication with us. But we have been informed that they are doing well, that they're healthy and no one was injured."

Hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz reignited as the NATO summit came to a close in Ankara, at which alliance members reiterated their position that Iran must never have nuclear weapons, calling on Tehran to respect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at the end of the summit, US President Donald Trump made it clear that the ceasefire deal was over: "To me, I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them anymore. They're scum. Do you know what scum is? They're scum. They're sick people. They're led by sick people. And they're vicious, violent people. And if they had a nuclear weapon they'd use it. As far as I'm concerned it's over. I'll speak to our negotiators, they want to negotiate … they're good people … Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner … but they have to come back to me. As far as I'm concerned it's just a waste of time dealing with them. They're liars. We make a deal ... if I make a deal with him and he goes out he talks to the press that we made a deal, and everyone's agreed; no nuclear weapon. We make a deal and they go outside and talk to the press and they say we never even talked about it. There is something wrong with them. They're cuckoo. As far as I'm concerned it's over."

Trump's announcement of the end of the ceasefire came after this morning’s fierce attacks between the United States and Iran. Along with targeting tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, the two sides targeted their respective military facilities in the region. The US targeted military bases in the south of Iran, while Iranian attacks focused on American military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
