Croatia will provide €1 million in humanitarian aid to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes that struck the South American country on June 24, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) announced on Wednesday.
The Croatian government approved the emergency assistance after two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, caused widespread destruction, leaving many people dead and damaging homes, hospitals and critical infrastructure.
"At a time when entire communities have been left without their homes and basic living conditions, Croatia is sending a clear message – solidarity, humanity and assistance to the most vulnerable know no borders," the ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The ministry added that Croatia's contribution is part of the broader international relief effort to help the Venezuelan population recover from the disaster.
Venezuela, one of South America's poorest countries, has been grappling with a prolonged economic crisis, complicating relief and recovery efforts. International rescue teams have been deployed to search for survivors, recover victims and deliver emergency aid.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 7.5 quake was the strongest to strike Venezuela since 1900.
