Mountain rescue crews located the wreckage of an ultralight aircraft late Friday night after it disappeared from radar that afternoon over Paklenica National Park.
The bodies of two people were found. They are believed to be a German couple in their 80s.
The plane was flying from the Czech Republic to Zadar. Dozens of rescue workers took part in the search, which was hampered by extremely difficult terrain and poor weather conditions.
“Weather conditions were extremely poor. Visibility was close to zero because of heavy fog, wind and rain. Our teams arrived at 10 p.m. at a location we had calculated based on the data we had, and there we found the wreckage of the missing plane,” said Peter Prpić of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.
The Air, Maritime and Rail Accident Investigation Agency has launched a safety investigation into the crash.
