On this day eleven years ago, Croatia became the 28th member state of the European Union; thus achieving one of the most important foreign policy goals since independence.
After ten years of membership, Croatia is now part of the Schengen area and the eurozone.
The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs released the following message:
"In the coming period we will continue to support European values and to advocate for the goals and policies that contribute to the realization of Croatia's interests. This includes promoting unity and strengthening the role of the EU in the world; strengthening security, resilience, and global competitiveness, supporting balanced economic progress and development, while building a more competitive and cohesive society."
In terms of looking forward, Croatia will continue to support the the further integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union.
"For Croatia, the priority remains clear: unequivocal support for the further enlargement of the EU based on merit and the fulfillment of the necessary criteria. In particular, we continue to advocate for the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina."
