The President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović stated after a visit to the Pećine Elementary School in Rijeka, together with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, that the new date for the Brdo-Brijuni summit will still be negotiated, but that the recent cancellation was inevitable.

'Vučić put me in an impossible position'

President Zoran Milanović stressed that he was sorry for the cancellation of the summit, which was to be held in Croatia for the first time since he became president. “It is a useful forum for dialogue, but unfortunately the President of Serbia went too far and put me, as the host, in an unsolvable position,” he said.

He referred to the statements of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, which, he claims, make normal dialogue impossible.

“I don't want to argue and explain that Croatia will not attack Serbia. He keeps saying that. We can't talk like this,” Milanović said. He continued in a cynical tone: "Unfortunately, nothing from Brijuni," although perhaps Vučić should "see where who was and where the greatest enemy of Greater Serbia, Josip Broz Tito, was based."

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, with whom President Milanović met in Rijeka, emphasized that the Brdo-Brijuni Process meeting "is moving forward."

“I cannot confirm where we will meet this year or next, but together we will try to find a new organizer,” said the Slovenian President, who is co-chairing the Brdo-Brijuni Process with the Croatian President.

About Orban: Yesterday's tyrant lost easily - the system works

Commenting on the results of the parliamentary elections in Hungary, Milanović said that he had not heard from the previous Prime Minister Viktor Orban, but did not rule out the possibility of future communication.

“His experience is vast, but the elections have shown that Hungary is a functional electoral democracy,” he said.

He emphasized that Orban, despite his long-term rule and strong majorities, lost the elections without contesting the results.

“The man, who was a satrap and a tyrant until yesterday lost the elections smoothly, lost them in a whisper. The opponent with whom he was in conflict achieved a great victory, which means that the system works,” Milanović concluded, adding that he considers the internal political relations of other countries to be their own issue.
