Zagreb University’s Faculty of Croatian Language and Culture is intended for young people of Croatian descent, Croatian returnees, and immigrants from the Croatian diaspora who wish to get to know Croatia, acquire or expand their knowledge about Croatia, and learn or improve their Croatian as a second language.
The program consists of academic teaching of the Croatian language organized by the University of Zagreb and a cultural program organized by the Croatian Heritage Foundation. It will be held in Zagreb from June 23 to July 17, 2026.
One selected candidate by the Ministry of Demography and Immigration will be awarded a scholarship covering the tuition costs of the Croatian language program as well as the costs of the cultural program and accommodations. The scholarship recipient will cover all travel and food expenses in full and must have health insurance and accident insurance while attending the University program.

Croatian emigrants, or their descendants, aged 17 or over, who have completed their secondary education, who reside outside the Republic of Croatia or have registered residence/stay in the Republic of Croatia for no longer than three years as of the date of publication of this tender, may apply for the scholarship award. Candidates interested in applying for the scholarship should submit their application exclusively by email to: stipendije@mdu.hr
Applications will be received from April 10 to April 17, 2026.
In the subject line of the email, you must state: "Application for the University School of Croatian Language"
The following must be attached to the application:
• Application form (HERE),
• Motivation letter (to which recommendations may also be attached),
• Short curriculum vitae,
• Proof of knowledge of the Croatian language (if available),
• Copy of ID card or travel document or biometric residence permit.
The Commission of the Ministry of Demography and Immigration decides on the proposal for the selection of one candidate, and the notification of the approved scholarship is sent to the candidate by email no later than April 30, 2026.
