Pilot is the best paid profession in Croatia, tailor is the worst

In the second quarter of 2023, the average monthly net salary in Croatia including salary supplements was 1,140 euros, which is four percent more than in the previous quarter and 16 percent more than in the same period in 2022, while on average pilots are the best paid with 2,912, and tailors the worst with 598 euros, announced the MojaPlaća service.

The median salary is 1,030 euros, which means that half of salaries paid are less than that amount, and half are more than that amount. Compared to the first quarter, the median salary grew by three percent, and compared to the first quarter of last year by 13 percent, according to data from the MojaPlaća service.


The highest paid workers in Croatia are pilots, whose average monthly salary is 2,912 euros. They are followed by directors with an average of 2,699 euros, and lead developers with an average of 2,627 euros. The fourth and fifth place is occupied by the IT sector - IT architects earn an average of 2,397 euros per month, and IT managers 2,365 euros.


Apart from managerial occupations, where salaries are 119 percent higher than average, the highest paid occupations are still those in the field of technology and development (66 percent higher than average) and information technology (37 percent higher).


Workers in auxiliary occupations (34 percent less than average), textile workers (37 percent less) and employees in service industries (28 percent less) have the lowest average salaries in Croatia.


A tailor, for example, receives on average of only 598 euros per month, a seamstress 648 euros, a security guard 701 euros, and a florist 707 euros.


Wages in foreign-owned private companies are six percent higher than the average, amounting to 1,209 euros. The salaries of employees of private companies in predominantly domestic ownership are four percent lower than the average (1,093 euros). Furthermore, average salaries in state-owned companies are around 1,067 euros (minus six percent), and the monthly salary of workers employed in public and local self-government amounts to 1,007 euros (minus twelve percent).


Compared to the second quarter of last year, salaries grew the most in domestically owned private companies (19 percent) and in state-owned companies (18 percent).


In companies with less than 10 employees, the average salary is 1,000 euros (minus 12 percent compared to the average), in companies with up to 19 employees, the salary is five percent lower than the average (1,087 euros), while the highest average salary is recorded in large companies (1,190 euros, or four percent more than the average).


Salaries are the highest in Zagreb and the lowest in eastern Croatia


Salaries are still the highest in the City of Zagreb, while the lowest salaries are still in the east of the country: in Požega-Slavonia (minus 21 percent) and Sisak-Moslavina (minus 15 percent) counties.


The highest average salary was recorded in the City of Zagreb (10 percent above the average) and amounts to 1,261 euros (median 1,125 euros).


Employees with a postgraduate degree or a business school (MBA) have an average salary of 46 percent higher than the average. Also, people with a university degree have an average salary of 15 percent higher than the average (1,312 euros) and even 35 percent higher than workers with a secondary education, who have an average of 975 euros, or 14 percent less than the average.


Compared to last year, the salary of employees with the lowest incomes increased the most, so the salary of employees with secondary education grew by 17 percent, while the salary of those with higher education grew by 13 percent.


Workers with no experience, who are at the beginning of their career, earn 939 euros (14 percent less than the average), while those with one to two years of experience have a salary of 1,016 euros (minus seven percent). We reach incomes that exceed the average Croatian salary with three to five years of work experience.


Employees with more than 10 years of experience have the highest salary, as expected, 1,240 euros, or 13 percent more than the average.


In the second quarter of 2023, men on average earned 21 percent more than women.
