Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković attended a ceremonial presentation of certificates of appreciation to the Croatian defenders of the Split Military District at the Croatian Army Headquarters in the Dalmatian capital and delivered a speech on the occasion.

Jandroković emphasized that Croatia had to defend itself and fight for freedom in the Homeland War.

"We should remember that Croatia lived in a Yugoslav communist totalitarian system, and all those who hope that we can return to that time should abandon these ideas and accept the reality that Croatia is a sovereign state, which will develop in the way the Croatian people want," he said.

At the ceremonial academy, by decision of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Veterans, Tomo Medved, veterans' certificates of appreciation were awarded to all units of the Split Military District and all units on the southern front that participated in the Operation Storm.

"I don't remember that in the past 30 years there have been so many commanders of all levels in one place," said Medved. "I am grateful to them all and I look forward to preserving the memory of our victory together," he added.
