Čiovo bridge opened

Today is a great day for Trogir and Čiovo – a bridge between Čiovo and the mainland was opened that should resolve traffic congestion during the tourist season. The bridge is 547 metres long, 13.5 metres wide and 6 metres in height.

“In the name of the government, I am satisfied to open this bridge that has for decades been a hope, yearning and great ambition for people from Čiovo and Trogir. This will significantly quicken the flow of people and enable a portion of Split to live in a better manner,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. He thanked Croatian Roads and the Strabag Company for everything done. “This is a great event for Čiovo,” he noted.

“Following yesterday’s magnificent welcome home for the Croatian National Football team, I think this is a great day for Croatia and for Dalmatia, but also people that live here. Following several decades we have completed the bridge. There were certain problems and challenges, but all of that is behind us,” said Minister of Maritime, Transport, and Infrastructure Oleg Butković ahead of the opening.

He added that the bridge will immediately put into use. “A certificate for use has been obtained. A great job has been done. We showed ourselves and Europe that we can conduct big infrastructure projects. After this we are continuing with Pelješac,” said Butković.

Trogir Mayor Ante Bilić said that this is a historic day for Trogir. “This is a bridge that literally means life and people could barely wait for this bridge that will resolve big problems for the city of Trogir,” said Bilić.

He added that this will not resolve all traffic problems but it the first and most difficult step.
