The process of withdrawing Croatian soldiers from Iraq and Lebanon has begun

The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces has begun the process of withdrawing members of the Croatian Armed Forces from missions in Iraq and Lebanon, the Office of the President of the Republic announced.

The Chief of the General Staff, as it is emphasized, acted in accordance with the President's decision and initiated the process of withdrawing Croatian soldiers from missions in Iraq and Lebanon, taking into account security and operational conditions. He regularly reports on the progress of implementation to the President of the Republic.


After the decision to withdraw is fully implemented, the public will be informed about it, the statement added.


Decision based on security assessment


The Office of the President states that the decision to withdraw Croatian soldiers was made in accordance with the constitutional and legal powers of the President of the Republic and based on a security assessment of the situation in the area where members of the Croatian Armed Forces are stationed.


It is also emphasized that the President of the Republic will continue to primarily take into account the security of Croatian soldiers and the national interests of the Republic of Croatia, while respecting the Constitution and law.
