Representatives of the Walk for Life initiative marked International Women's Day by saying that the foundation of all women's rights is the right to life.
Speaking in front of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, they said that without protecting every human life - from conception to natural death - the discussion about women's rights remains incomplete and contradictory.
The initiative's coordinator, Željka Markić, addressed supporters in Zagreb on Sunday.
"In the EU, maternal mortality - the number of women who die during pregnancy, childbirth or abortion - ranges from five to seven per 100,000 women. The lowest maternal mortality rate in Europe is in Poland, a country that protects life from conception to natural death. These figures show that women are safest in countries where abortion has been recriminalized and where they are not exposed to the risks it brings," Markić said.
Organizers also announced that this year the Walk for Life will be held for the first time in 19 cities across Croatia, beginning in Zagreb on Saturday, May 9.
