As part of his official visit to the Republic of Croatia, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev laid a wreath at the Bulgarian Military Cemetery in Vukovar on Tuesday in memory of 1,027 Bulgarian soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers who died during 1944 and 1945 in the liberation of Croatia from fascism.

“This monument is an indicator of how Bulgaria made a significant contribution to the fight against fascism, and it was my duty to pay tribute to the heroes of the Croatian Homeland War who contributed to Croatian freedom with their courage,” said Rumen Radev, who also laid a wreath at the foot of the monument at the nearby Memorial Cemetery of Victims of the Homeland War.

He also assessed that there is no such thing as a good war, so the memory of wars should be constantly renewed because this can prevent them, which, as he admitted, has been increasingly difficult recently.

He thanked Croatia for taking care of Bulgarian monuments.

At the Bulgarian Military Cemetery, a wreath was laid on behalf of President Zoran Milanović by the Head of the Presidential Cabinet, Bartol Šimunić, and the Croatian President's Advisor for Foreign and European Policy, Neven Pelicarić, was also present.
