Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman today called for de-escalation and dialogue, commenting on the announced US imposition of tariffs on European countries that support Danish sovereignty over Greenland.
“The Government's position is that allies within NATO must respect each other, have mutual respect and, of course, respect the sovereignty of Denmark, that is, the people of Greenland,” said Minister Gordan Grlić Radman.
He added that any level of disruption of the balance of trade relations between the EU and the US should be prevented.
“The United States of America and the European Union are structurally linked, they rely on each other and the security aspect, not just the trade aspect, depends on the strength of the transatlantic relationship,” said the minister.
“I think dialogue is most important at this moment, prudence in acting and we also call for de-escalation,” he added.
He also said that he believes that in the coming days there will be an open dialogue and a prudent approach "because European security and stability rest on the transatlantic relationship".
“It is important for us to maintain transatlantic unity,” said Grlić Radman.
