The 7th session of the Intergovernmental Joint Committee for the Protection of National Minorities between North Macedonia and Croatia was held in Skopje today.

While North Macedonians in Croatia are officially recognized as a national minority, Croats in North Macedonia do not yet have this status.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Zoran Dimitrovski emphasized his country’s commitment to improving the situation. “We are committed to continuously enhancing the position of the Croatian national minority in our country. This includes strengthening institutional support, expanding educational opportunities, supporting cultural activities and preserving identity, and ensuring media representation and community visibility,” he said.

Zvonko Milas, State Secretary of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad, expressed confidence that the two countries would continue collaborating to secure official recognition for Croats in North Macedonia. He added that the issue is expected to be resolved soon through amendments to the North Macedonian Constitution.
