The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has called on the authorities in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian Serb entity Republic of Srpska to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
According to initial information, the Croatian consul and his brother were physically attacked in Banja Luka on Sunday, but they did not suffer serious injuries. The attack was accompanied by a slew of verbal insults on the basis of their ethnicity.
The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms and has called on the authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice. The attack has also been condemned by local authorities.
The attack comes amid a wave of inflammatory rhetoric from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who has accused Croatia of trying to swing a recent local election. This prompted Croatian President Zoran Milanović to cancel the scheduled annual Brdo Brijuni Process meeting in May.
