Fan favorite Livaja appears to be on his way out at Hajduk

A major shake-up is unfolding at Hajduk just ten days before the club's first European match of the new season, with Marko Livaja's future now in doubt.

After being sent home from Hajduk's training camp in Bled, Slovenia, for violating the club's disciplinary rules and failing to follow the coach's instructions, several Croatian media outlets reported that Livaja has been told he is free to leave and that the club is prepared to terminate his contract without compensation.

If those reports prove accurate, it would bring an end to Livaja's nearly five-and-a-half-year spell at Hajduk.

Speaking on Monday, club president Ivan Bilić said he could only confirm that Livaja had been suspended from training.

"As a club, we have officially communicated our position regarding Marko Livaja and the fact that he has been suspended from training. That is the only official and confirmed information. Other reports have appeared in the media, but we still need to speak with Marko's agent. I would like to keep today's discussion focused on the topics of this meeting," Bilić said.

Hajduk announced on its official website on Sunday that Livaja had left the team's training camp ahead of schedule and returned to Split.

"Marko Livaja will leave the training camp in Bled earlier than planned and return to Split. This decision was made due to a violation of the club's disciplinary regulations and failure to comply with the rules established by the club during the training camp.

"Marko is invaluable to the club, our supporters and everyone who loves and lives Hajduk. This decision was made with only one interest in mind – Hajduk first. Always and forever. We will inform the public of any further decisions in due course," the club said.
