Croatian President Zoran Milanović confirmed that by participating in the July NATO summit in Vilnius, he will show solidarity, but that Croatia does not have much say about what decisions will be made there, announcing that the mandate of the Secretary General will be extended.
“We are going there to be in solidarity, probably to extend Stoltenberg's mandate for another year because there are a hundred reasons for him to stay as far as the Americans and the English are concerned. There are a lot of reasons for him to leave, but it doesn't matter to me," said President Zoran Milanović in the town of Donje Bare in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he laid a wreath for fallen partisans in the Second World War.
In addition to the Croatian President, the Ministers of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić-Radman, and Ministers of Defense, Mario Banožić, should participate in the NATO summit announced for July 11 and 12 in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius.
When asked by a journalist what had changed since last year when they did not want to participate, Milanović replied that he did not know, stating that Croatia would not be asked there to make important decisions.
“I know from the protocol that they didn't want to go last year. They are going there for some kind of dinner. But they have no say, neither do I, nor does Plenković,” added Milanović.
