CFA warns: Heatwave brings severe risk of wildfires

The Croatian Firefighters Association (CFA) has urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and responsible behavior due to a pronounced heatwave, prolonged drought, and an increased risk of outdoor fires breaking out and spreading rapidly.

"I call on all citizens to contribute to maintaining safety, protecting human lives, and preserving the natural treasures of our homeland through their responsible behavior," said Chief Fire Commander Slavko Tucaković.

He warned that high temperatures and adverse weather conditions create circumstances where even the smallest ignition source can cause a fire with serious consequences for human lives, public health, property, economic resources, and natural wealth.

He urged citizens to avoid any outdoor burning, disposal of plant waste by fire, use of open flames, and all activities that could cause sparking or the uncontrolled spread of fire. He also requested that cigarette butts, glass, and other objects that can cause a fire not be discarded outdoors.

He noted that firefighting units across Croatia are on full alert and are continuously monitoring the development of the situation, adding that the success of protecting people, property, and the environment largely depends on the responsibility of each individual.

He called on citizens to immediately report any sight of smoke, fire, or any danger to firefighters by calling 193 or the County Operations Center at 112 without delay.
