Prime Minister Andrej Plenković called for the calming of tensions in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina after a meeting with the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, in Zagreb on Friday.
Plenković released the following message on X:
"We continue to have a constructive dialogue with the High Representative. I expressed my concern about the current political crisis and once again called for a de-escalation of tensions. We condemn moves that threaten the Dayton Peace Agreement and the functionality of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Peace, stability and the country's European path are of strategic importance to Croatia, as well as ensuring the full equality of Croats as a constituent people. I once again stressed the need for an urgent agreement on electoral reform that would ensure the legitimate representation of Croat political representatives."
The meeting comes just one day after Schmidt suspended all public funding for Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik's party and their coalition partner.
Earlier this year, Dodik was handed a one-year prison sentence and a six-year ban from political office for undermining the country's fragile constitutional order.
Schmidt explained the decision on Thursday, saying the move was done in response to ongoing flagrant attacks against the fundamental principles of the Dayton Peace Agreement and on the constitutional and legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dodik responded by calling him a fool.
