In the first half of the year, Croatian exports increased by 6.3 percent, while imports were up 2% and reached nearly 22 billion euros.
The State Bureau of Statistics on Friday also revealed that the coverage of imports by exports was 56% and that the foreign trade deficit amounted to almost 10 billion euros.
In more economic news, the Croatian Chamber of Crafts has warned that caterers are overloaded with a multitude of unclear and complex regulations. Therefore, a meeting with the State Inspectorate has been requested in order to sort out the matter.
Among other things, caterers say that in certain cases they should have prior notice of inspections in order to better prepare documentation and premises, and that inspections be carried out during less-busy times of the day, week or even season.
Eighty-six cases of anthrax infection have been confirmed so-far in the Dalmatian hinterland. The Croatian Veterinary Institute reported that a total of 143 samples from dead livestock were received, and that 120 of them had been processed. Most infections were recorded in cattle - with 76; followed by six sheep, two goats, one fawn and one donkey. Twenty-nine samples yielded negative results.
