Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed the conflict in the Middle East on Monday during the Europe Today program on Euronews.
He said it is difficult to predict whether the U.S.-Israeli strikes will lead to regime change in Iran, but suggested that this appears to be their objective.
Commenting on the legality of the attacks under international law, Plenković noted that the United States and Israel informed the U.N. Security Council that negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program had been exhausted. He added that Israel views Iran’s nuclear program — and Iran itself — as an existential threat.
“That was obviously the reason this operation was undertaken,” Plenković said. “It is not only targeting nuclear facilities, alleged nuclear facilities, or military sites, but also clearly aimed at regime change — which has been evident for months if you follow developments in and around Iran.”
