Members of the 6th Croatian contingent in Lithuania rescued a man from a burning car after a serious traffic accident, the Croatian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday.
Members of the 6th Croatian Contingent in the Republic of Lithuania provided assistance to a young male person after a serious traffic accident on the Kaunas-Jonava road, near the village of Marinauka," the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
According to the ministry, Corporals Tino Ćurković and Lovre Kovačević and Private Leon Zubović were returning from Kaunas to the barracks in Rukla, where they saw a traffic accident in which a car had veered off the road and overturned several times.
“Croatian soldiers immediately stopped and came to the aid of the injured driver, whose car had started to burn after veering off the road. Croatian soldiers pulled the man out of the burning vehicle to a safe distance and provided him with first aid until emergency services arrived,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Defence praised the soldiers for their "high level of professionalism, composure and readiness to act in crisis situations in which human lives are at risk".
In the NATO Battle Group in Lithuania, led by the Federal Republic of Germany, along with members of the Croatian Armed Forces, there are also soldiers from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Luxembourg and Norway.
The tasks of the battle group in Lithuania are related to developing combat readiness and strengthening interoperability through training and exercises, continuous improvement of employment plans and defense planning.
