The underpass on Slavonska Avenue in Zagreb is expected to reopen to traffic early Tuesday morning after a temporary closure linked to ongoing demolition works on the nearby Vjesnik Tower.

Work on the high-rise resumed after repairs were completed on the main excavator, which had previously caused delays in the project.

The demolition of the former Vjesnik Tower, one of Zagreb’s most recognisable skyscrapers and a long-standing landmark on the city skyline, is being carried out in stages.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Spatial Planning and State Property Branko Bačić said he expects the project to continue as planned.

“I hope the work continues according to plan. According to engineers and contractors, the next phase is the least complex part of the project, with one floor scheduled to be removed each day. Despite the delays, the skyscraper is still expected to be fully demolished by mid-July,” Bačić said.

Authorities say traffic management measures around Slavonska Avenue will remain in place as demolition works continue in the area.
