Možemo decides to go it alone in the parliamentary election

Možemo will run independently in next year's parliamentary election, the party announced Tuesday. 

The liberal party believes that going it alone gives them the best chance to rally the largest number of voters. Polling has shown that teaming up with fellow liberals, the SDP, did not result in synergy that would benefit Možemo.

"We will be heading into this election independently. We are looking to mobilize as many voters as possible because it is the only way that we see that the left can unite to form a majority and send the HDZ packing into the dustbin of history," said Sandra Benčić, who is coordinating Možemo's campaign together with Tomislav Tomašević.

"As a still relatively new political party, we believe this is the way we can attract the most new voters in the elections. I think it's key to create a larger pool of left-leaning voters to get the HDZ out of power," said Tomašević.

Regardless of the decision, Možemo's leadership still considers the SDP their leading partner in a post-election coalition.

"It's been our intention from the start to create a majority with other parties, starting in the center and going leftward. And of course, we see the SDP as our leading partner in creating a government,” said Benčić.

The SDP does not appear to be taking the decision as rejection. Možemo has offered to cooperate on the local level in certain districts. The SDP's leadership is due to meet tomorrow to discuss their next steps.
