The Iranian Embassy in Zagreb said relations between Tehran and Croatia are based on mutual respect, adding that diplomats from both countries have always worked to promote bilateral ties in line with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The statement followed comments by Israeli Ambassador to Croatia Gary Koren, who called on Croatia to sever diplomatic relations with Iran and to review the staff of the Iranian embassy. Koren suggested that members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard could be among the diplomatic staff, allegedly tasked with collecting intelligence and supporting terrorism.
After these remarks, Koren was summoned to the Office of the President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović, where officials reportedly warned him about "unacceptable and harmful" statements that disturb the public and damage Croatia.
