Milanović on choice of ambassadors: I am ready for a big compromise

President Zoran Milanović, when asked by reporters, commented on the disputes with the Government regarding the appointment of new ambassadors.

“I agree to everything, like a desperate lover. Let the gentlemen come to an agreement and stop looking for a speck in someone else's eye, and not seeing a log in their own, a good log from Dalmatian Evergreen Oak. Because I am ready for a big compromise in the interest of the functioning of the service. Let's say that the local ambassador who has been here for six years, and that is really enough, goes somewhere else or I don't know what the plans are, it has to be rotated,” said president Zoran Milanović, adding that "Andrej Plenković is destroying the service".

He said that they have to sit down and agree.

“The decision is joint, co-signed, and the credentials are signed by the President of the Republic. They don't expect me to sign what they bring from the Croatian Democratic Union headquarters. That's not how it works. I agreed to have a quarter of the people, mostly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Milanović added, and pointed out that he had nothing more to say on the subject.

“I will sign everything that is proposed by the Croatian Democratic Union. I have a lot of dilemmas, but don't mess around, brother, my candidates are better. It's all there, the only thing is that I am more modest, I am not greedy,” Milanović said.

The idea that this should be proposed in the Government is simply stupid, the president believes.

“That is not the case and it has never been the case. We have this behavior because someone saw that he was not threatened with consequences,” he concluded.
