Croatia and Australia agree to end double taxation

As the Croatian Finance Ministry points out the agreement opens a new chapter in economic relations between the two countries, strengthening trade, investments and cooperation, as well as facilitating business for the Croatian diaspora in Australia.

As part of his official visit to Australia Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Marko Primorac and the Treasurer of the Australian Government Jim Chalmers signed an agreement between the Republic of Croatia and Australia on the elimination of double taxation of income taxes and the prevention of tax evasion and tax avoidance. The news was reported by the Croatian Ministry of Finance on Monday.

During his visit, Minister Primorac also met with the Premier of South Australia Peter Malinauskas and other key political and economic stakeholders with whom he discussed strategic investments, innovations, energy, advanced industry and cutting edge technologies. Special emphasis was placed on improving education and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

Minister Primorac also met with the Croatian community in Australia and thanked them for their long-standing contribution to strengthening ties between Croatia and Australia. He stressed the importance of preserving Croatian cultural identity, promoting the Croatian language and tradition, and further involving the diaspora in economic and social projects in Croatia. On the fringes of the meetings, discussions were held with investors about the possibilities of cooperation in numerous sectors of the economy.

During the visit and meetings with Australian officials and representatives of the business community, both sides expressed satisfaction with the development of relations to date and readiness to strengthen the existing strategic partnership. Minister Primorac stressed that the signed agreement will open up new opportunities for the Croatian economy, further connect the Croatian and Australian business communities, and enable a more active role of the diaspora in the development of Croatia.
