Chief State Attorney Ivan Turudić said that an extraordinary supervision was sent to the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Šibenik today. The supervision will be carried out on the case in which an indictment was filed against Aleksić in 2023 for manufacturing and possessing illegal weapons, when a criminal complaint was filed, Aleksić was arrested, but no pre-trial detention was requested.

Ivan Turudić said that an extraordinary supervision of the work on a specific case at the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Šibenik begins today.

“When the Ministry of Justice goes into inspection supervision, it only controls the affairs of the State Attorney's Office and the court administration when it goes to court. We will deal with the specific case and we will see what kind of action was taken, whether it was in accordance with the law,” he said.

He stated that the indictment in the case was confirmed a long time ago, but that no hearing had been scheduled, and the State Attorney's Office cannot influence this.

He added that it would have been desirable if the hearing had been scheduled and the proceedings had been conducted without delays, which might have prevented the commission of a criminal offense.

Turudić also said that the maximum duration of pre-trial detention for these offenses is three months and that, even in the case of a three-year prison sentence, the suspect could commit a criminal offense again.

He assessed that the interpretation of the Šibenik Municipal Court on urgency was “disorganized”, emphasizing that every criminal proceeding should begin and end as soon as possible, regardless of the workload of the courts.
