Tobacco to be more expensive in 2026

Starting January 1st, tobacco products in Croatia will become more expensive following an increase in excise duties.

The government says the modest rise is intended to improve public health by discouraging smoking. According to Finance Minister Marko Primorac, the increase is expected to be no more than twenty cents per pack.

“This is a standard adjustment,” Primorac said, noting that similar excise increases are regularly introduced across the European Union. He added that, in comparison with other countries, Croatia’s excise duties on tobacco products remain among the more moderate.
