The U.S. State Department has issued new advice for American citizens traveling outside the country. Depending on danger levels, countries have been listed in four categories.

Croatia, like most European countries, is in category one. The group consists of countries with the lowest danger levels where travelers and tourists are advised to exercise usual measures of caution.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is in category two, as a country where increased caution should be exercised due to possible terrorist attacks on tourist destinations and where there is a danger of leftover land-mines. Increased caution is also advised for Americans traveling to Ukraine, China and Saudi Arabia which have also been listed in category two.

Americans who want to travel to Russia and Turkey, which have been listed in category three, are advised to reconsider their decision to travel to those countries. Cuba is also in the group due to mysterious attacks on the health of American diplomats.

Category four contains countries that Americans are explicitly advised to not travel to due to crime, terrorism, violence, and conflict. The list contains Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen.
