The two-day summit and economic forum of the Three Seas Initiative, which Croatia chairs this year, brought together numerous politicians, businessmen and 12 heads of state and government in Dubrovnik.
A large American delegation is led by US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. The main topics are transport, energy and digital connectivity, strengthening energy security, developing strategic infrastructure and increasing the resilience and competitiveness of the European Union.
10 important agreements backed by the US were signed as part of the summit. They relate, among other things, to cooperation related to the use of nuclear energy for civilian purposes and the southern gas interconnection - connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Croatian gas pipeline and supplying gas via the LNG terminal on Krk instead of depending on supply routes from Russia.
Dubrovnik in the focus of the world: 1,600 participants are changing the geopolitical map of Europe
Dubrovnik is no longer just a tourist postcard of Croatia - it is becoming one of the key global decision-making places. The start of the 11th Three Seas Initiative summit and the largest business forum in modern Croatian history brings together more than 1,600 participants and 724 companies from 45 countries. The city is home to leaders from 13 EU member states, as well as partners from the United States, Germany, Japan and other global powers.
The discussions that are starting in Dubrovnik are not just about Europe - they are about redefining global energy, transport and economic flows in a time of war, crisis and geopolitical realignment.
Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman pointed out that the importance of the Initiative is greater today than ever before.
“Through the Three Seas Initiative, Croatia is contributing to the security, competitiveness and cohesion of the European Union. Energy has become a security issue today,” he said.
He added that Dubrovnik is not only a European, but also a global center these days.
“When you see almost 1,600 participants and more than 700 companies here, it is clear that this forum exceeds expectations. Decisions are made here on logistics, infrastructure and energy diversification,” he noted.
The focus is on projects worth hundreds of millions of euros, but also on a long-term strategy that should determine the development of the Initiative in the next decade.
Croatia and the US sign agreements "worth billions" in Dubrovnik
On Tuesday, Croatia and the USA signed agreements and memorandums in Dubrovnik that US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said were worth billions and opened a new era of Washington's cooperation with this part of Europe.
The US minister said that this was a fantastic opportunity for everyone, and added that he was looking forward to a very bright future.
“This part of Europe is coming to its senses - the path to prosperity is more energy, not less,” he concluded.
US Ambassador to Croatia Nicole McGraw said that she was incredibly proud of the signed agreements, and reiterated that a golden era in relations between the US and Croatia had begun.
