Former Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Marko Primorac has been appointed Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, becoming the first Croatian to hold the position.

As one of the bank’s eight vice-presidents, Primorac will represent Croatia, Hungary, and Poland.

“With his strong experience in public finance, both in Croatia and at the EU level, Marko Primorac will further strengthen the European Investment Bank’s capacity to deliver on EU priorities,” said Nadia Calviño, President of the EIB.

Primorac said he was honored to take on the new role.

“I look forward to contributing to the EIB’s mission across all member states, including my home country Croatia, and to supporting Europe’s global competitiveness and sustainable development,” he said in a statement.

The EIB noted that its operations in Croatia date back to 1977, with total investments in the country exceeding 11 billion euros to date.
