Fuel prices are set to rise again at midnight on Tuesday, with the government expected to partially offset the increase. The extent of the adjustments will be announced on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Tome Medved said the government will set new price caps during a conference call.

“What we have managed to maintain is security of supply and affordability. We have invested significant effort in this and will continue to do so,” Medved said, adding that prices would be much higher without government intervention.

Currently, the most commonly used fuel, Eurosuper, costs €1.62 per litre. Diesel is priced at €1.73, while agricultural diesel stands at €1.19. The government also plans to cap the price of LNG.

Medved urged retailers not to raise prices unjustifiably, warning against using the ongoing war in the Middle East as a pretext.

The capped prices do not apply to premium fuels or to petrol stations on motorways.
